Welcome to Kindred ("Kindred," "we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use the Kindred platform, website, and related services (collectively, the "Service").
Kindred is designed to help families organize homeschooling, household management, scheduling, goals, habits, and family activities.
Information We Collect
Beta Applications
If you submit a beta application through our website, we collect your name, email address, and your application responses.
Account Information
When you create an account, we may collect:
- Name
- Email address
- Password and authentication information
- Subscription or account status
Family Information
Account holders may create and manage family profiles. Information may include:
- Family member names and nicknames
- Grade levels
- Educational information
- Family schedules
- Household planning information
User Content
You may create, upload, or store content including:
- Assignments, lessons, and curriculum information
- Calendar events
- Goals and habits
- Notes and meal plans
- Uploaded documents, images, and PDFs
Technical Information
We may automatically collect device type, browser type, operating system, IP address, usage information, error logs, and performance data.
How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Provide and operate the Service
- Authenticate users
- Store and synchronize family data
- Improve features and performance
- Respond to support requests
- Monitor service reliability and security
- Communicate important service updates
Family Data Ownership
Families retain ownership of the content they create and upload to Kindred. You grant Kindred a limited license to store, process, and display your content solely for the purpose of operating the Service.
Third-Party Service Providers
We use trusted third-party providers to operate portions of the Service, which may include:
- Authentication providers
- Cloud hosting providers
- Database providers
- File storage providers
- Email delivery providers
- Calendar integration providers (e.g. Google Calendar)
- Analytics and error monitoring providers
These providers may process information on our behalf. Connecting Google Calendar is optional. When connected, calendar data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy in addition to this policy.
Google User Data
If you choose to connect Google Calendar, Kindred accesses calendar data through the Google Calendar API. This access is entirely optional and requires your explicit authorization through Google's consent screen. Specifically, Kindred:
- Creates and writes events to a dedicated "Kindred" calendar in your Google account, so your lessons, chores, and other scheduled items can appear alongside your existing calendars
- Reads events only from calendars you explicitly select, in order to display them inside Kindred
- Lets each family member connect or disconnect their own Google Calendar independently — disconnecting immediately stops all sync
We do not sell, rent, or share Google user data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. Google user data obtained through this integration is transmitted only between Kindred and Google's own servers to provide the calendar sync feature you requested, and is stored only as needed to operate that feature (e.g., which calendars you've connected and sync status). We do not transfer Google user data to any other third party, except where necessary to operate the Service on infrastructure described in "Third-Party Service Providers" above (e.g., our hosting and database providers, who process it solely on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes), or where required by law.
Kindred's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Data Storage and Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure. While we work to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data Retention
We retain information for as long as necessary to provide the Service and comply with legal obligations. Deleted information may remain in backup systems for a limited period before permanent removal.
Your Rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information at any time by contacting us. To delete your account and associated data, contact us at the address below.
Children's Information
Kindred is intended for use by parents and guardians. Children do not create accounts independently. Parents and guardians manage all family data, including information entered about minors. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updated versions will be posted with a revised Effective Date. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
